Vision Screening in Ethiopia!!!

Paving the Way joined Dr. Enawgaw Mehari, CEO and Founder of People-to-People and a team of elite physicians from the US in Ethiopia to provide much needed health services. Ethiopia is a low-income country with a population of more than 80 million. Over the past decade the government has made great strides in improving access to health care to fight communicable diseases and meet the Millennium Development Goals.

We witnessed the first Telemedicine event at Ethiopian Airlines Hospital with OD-Scope and we screened over 400 students and local adults who were need of vision care at General Wingate School in Addis Ababa.

While at the Innovation Africa Digital Summit several other projects were discussed with NGO's and governments. We look forward to sharing more about them as they progress.

Human Trafficking

Trafficking is a $32 billion dollar business worldwide.

Asia, Africa, Latin America, Middle East and here in the US, children are being forced, coerced and sold into slavery. One child looses their freedom every 26 seconds. Ethiopia is a main source of trafficking into the Middle East due to the number of Orphans. Florida has the 3rd highest number of trafficking instances behind California and Texas. Trafficking is closing in quickly to be the 2nd highest illegal moneymaker in the world.

This silent crime robs a child of their innocence and their possible future. Paving the Way is working in tandem with several local law enforcement, regional and global agencies and non-profit organizations to raise awareness of this horrible crime. Together we will be educating our youth and their parents about the signs of trafficking with our Docufilm - "Mis-taken" coming out later this summer.

In addition to using multimedia to raise awareness to stop this crime, we have designed a program to gather relevant data on the millions of orphans of Ethiopia, who are the primary targets of human trafficking. The data we gather from this project will be used to design health and educational programs, along with housing solutions creating a new future for these children, keeping Ethiopians future in Ethiopia.
